PLAYING WITH TIME
PLAYING WITH TIME
I have always been captivated by time - by this societal construct that pertains to such controlling qualities that dictate people’s everyday lives. I was so engrossed with its philosophy that I dedicated a whole research project to the subject. My goal was to identify a relationship between rushed living and mental health, to understand how time is a social construct, and to identify the different standards of time etiquette and management between different cultures. I also sought to track and explore people’s daily habits regarding their perception of time, and intentionally practice the art of doing nothing to see if it affects a person’s mental health. The way in which I decided to conduct my research was by using none other than the busiest city in the world: New York City, for New Yorkers are always in a rush, yet it is recommended by psychologists that living in the present is more beneficial for a person’s mental health. My work compiled many interesting perspectives on the subject and even concluded in an interesting prototype on how to better people’s relationships to time.
